A few days before the end of the school year, Aegean Echoes towards Empowerment and Sustainability had the opportunity to organize a pleasant visit to Kois Mansion. Lower secondary school students from our town joined a guided tour that brought them a little closer to the history and culture of Ermoupolis.
Together, we explored the mansion, a house that still preserves the style and atmosphere of another era. From the courtyard and the grand marble staircase to the rooms with old furniture and well-preserved objects, the students showed genuine interest. They spent time in the main salon, with its impressive ceiling painting and grand piano, while the old dental office, with its unusual tools by today’s standards, made a particular impression on them.
The traditional kitchen also attracted attention, illustrating what everyday life on the island once looked like – so different from today. The view from the balcony became another point of discussion, offering a glimpse of an Ermoupolis that has changed over the years, yet continues to maintain its distinct character.
The visit concluded with an engaging discussion with the students, who had the chance to get to know a representative part of the local heritage and to approach it through direct experience and observation.
